Helicopter private pilot add on requirements:

Minimum requirements for a Add on private pilot certificate Rotorcraft

NO FAA Written Exam Required

Must Hold a Private (or higher) Pilot Certificate

Hold a Current 3rd Class (or higher) FAA Medical Certificate

Complete 20 hours Dual Instruction minimum flight time

Complete 10 hrs of Solo Flight

FAA Oral and Practical Flight Test

Private Pilot - Helicopter FAA Rating Requirements:

Minimum 17 Years Old to Take Flight Test (age 16 for Student Pilot & Solo) 
Must Read, Write, Understand, and Speak English 
Obtain a FAA Medical Certificate (Prior to first Solo Flight) 
Complete 40 hours Minimum Flight Time Including 10 hrs of Solo Flight

Tests:

FAA Oral and Practical Flight Test 
FAA Written Knowledge Test

40 - Hours (Minimum) Total Pilot Time in Helicopters Must Include the following

30 - hours of "dual" flight instruction and 10 hours of "solo" flight 
3 - hours of dual cross-country flight training 
3 - hours dual instruction at night
10 - hours of Required "Solo" Flight Must Include: 

3 - hours cross-country time.
one cross-country flight of 100 nautical miles total distance, with landings at a minimum of three points, and one segment of the flight being a straight-line distance of at least 25 nautical miles between the takeoff and landing locations.
3 hours cross-country time.

Three takeoffs and three landings to a full stop (with each landing involving a flight in the traffic pattern) at an airport with an operating control tower.


3 hours of flight training in preparation for the practical test in a helicopter, which must have been performed within 60 days preceding the date of the test (check ride).

The average length of time it takes to get a Helicopter Private Pilot certificate is 50-60 hours.
